NZ Work Visas You Can Apply For

NZ Visa Connections understands that migrants want to know how they can apply for a job without a visa or get a visa without confirmed employment. We can help you efficiently navigate these issues to come to New Zealand.

Our job is to support your approach to employers, reassuring them about the visa application process. When an employer knows you have local professional immigration help, they feel more confident about making that vital step of offering you the job. Here are some of the NZ work visas you can apply for:

NZ Accredited Employer Work Visa

This new work visa has replaced the Essential Skills work visa, Long Term Skills Shortage visa and the Talent work visa.

If you are an employer or business, please read more to learn about how this new category can help you and may impact your current processes of employing overseas workers.

The new Accredited Employer Work Visa kicked off in July 2022 and is now the primary pathway for overseas workers to obtain a work visa.

  • Your potential employer must be accredited with Immigration New Zealand.
  • You must be offered a full-time position and have the skills or expertise to qualify you for the job.
  • The role offered to you must pay at least median wage (unless your role is exempt)
  • This visa may help you on your journey to acquiring residence.
  • You have to prove your health and character meet immigration requirements.
  • Most visas are issued for 3 years (although lower paid roles may receive a 2 year visa). This visa increases to 5 years from November 2023

Get in touch to see if you qualify – there are many additional requirements here to be aware of such as Green List roles, Sector Agreements etc.

NZ Partnership Work Visa

Did you know you could get a work visa based on your partnership? Maybe your partner is a New Zealander or is currently working or studying here?

In this case, you may be able to apply for an ‘open’ work visa, meaning you can work for any employer, part or full-time.

A critical part of this visa is proving you are living in a genuine relationship. This sounds easy, but it is one of the most complex parts of most applications. Applications being declined or needing additional documentation to be provided after the application is lodged are common problems migrants face when managing these applications alone. Professional help and guidance ensures your application includes all necessary information for approval.

New Zealand Working Holiday Visa

New Zealand is a famous destination for young people wanting to work and travel. There are various schemes available, depending on where you are from. Most of these are now open for working travellers.

New Zealand Post Study Work Visa

After completing your studies in New Zealand, this visa is a natural progression for international students looking to remain and start their careers in New Zealand.

Typically, the New Zealand Post Study Work Visa is granted for up to 3 years, depending on how long you studied for and what level you studied to.

Applicants are required to provide the following:

  • Evidence of completion of their course of study
  • Proof of funds of $5000

If your level of study was below Level 7, your course must appear on a list of eligible qualifications that relate to the Green List to be able to apply for this visa.

NZ Visa Connections can help you with your application, particularly if the recent border restrictions have inhibited your ability to stay or return to New Zealand as a student.

NZ Specific Purpose Work Visa

  • "Overall, my experience with NZ Visa Connections has been very pleasant and enjoyable. They provided me with the peace of mind and confidence that everything will be sorted, and that my visa application was in very good hands. The team was very efficient, organized, and “on-the-ball” on all immigration policies and requirements. The weekly video chats to check on the progress of my “paper trail” was very helpful. It was a very professional engagement with a personal touch. "

  • "My experience has truly been nothing short of easy and amazing. NZ Visa Connections has been thorough since the inception of our relationship. Understanding the ins and outs of the process has been overwhelming and not always easy to follow. But, they've been transparent, calming and honest during an otherwise difficult to navigate process. The team goes above and beyond and it's very evident they are passionate about the work that they do."

    Ashley Bent, Work Visa Support

  • "Outstanding work from NZ Visa Connections in regards to helping our company secure visas for two of our key staff members. These two wonderful ladies have gone above and beyond for our company. Rebecca was the case manager for two of our staff members and  she worked exceptionally hard to renew their visas on the 11th hour. I was so impressed with her amazing ability to make things happen with such a positive outcome. "

  • "I was very nervous about trying to employ an international applicant, but NZ Visa Connections helped me employ the perfect person for our team, even making suggestions so we could apply for a 3-year Visa straight away. They assisted and supported me every step of the way, from helping with the advertisement to preparing Visa application documents, through to procuring the visa’s required for our employee. They were knowledgeable and eminently capable, and I would have no hesitation referring them to any other business thinking about hiring internationally."

Lisa Coleman, Employer / Business services

  • "NZ Visa Connections basically took the stress out of my work and residence visa applications. I honestly feel so lucky to have found them in the first place --through my sister's colleague's recommendation. They were as amazing to work with as what we heard about them. The whole process was already quite streamlined for us (my partner and I). We simply had to follow through a well-defined checklist with details like: the importance of a specific document, suggestions and prompts for letters and other write up. It was very clear to us that they are the expert we needed."
