New Zealand has business and investment opportunities in traditional and new business sectors, a well-educated and flexible workforce, and a Government actively promoting growth and innovation with a range of business and migrant- friendly policies.
As residence opportunities in other categories are discontinued or on pause, investment visas can offer a route to residence that bypasses the need for a job offer and associated evidential requirements. Many migrants are able to meet the investment threshold by simply liquidating the assets they have in their home country and bringing this to NZ.
These investment visas enable people to gain residence by investing into a New Zealand business or other acceptable investments.
Investor thresholds apply, currently set at NZD$10 Million for the Investor 1 category or NZD$3 Million for the Investor 2 category. With both categories you can remain in NZ indefinitely, work and study here and potentially go on to apply for permanent residence. In addition, your partner and dependent children (aged under 24) can be included.
Investor 1
Key points of interest for this visa are:
- You must keep acceptable investment funds for three years
- You must stay in NZ for at least 44 days each year in last 2 years of the investment period (see also Reward for Growth Investments)
- There is no requirement to have a certain standard of English Language
- You can be any age to apply for this visa
Investor 2
Key points of interest for this visa are:
- You must keep acceptable investment funds for four years
- You must stay in NZ for at least 146 days each year in the last 3 years of the investment period (see also reward for growth investments)
- You must have a minimum of three years’ business experience and be aged 65 or under.
- You must submit an expression of interest (EOI) which shows you have a minimum of 20 points.
